Description
Clove is a tropical tree whose fruits (the calyx with the bud) are dried to form the well-known spice or are used to extract essential oil or prepare a tincture. It has been known for its medicinal properties since the 13th century. The main functional component of clove oil is eugenol.
Effects and Uses
Clove has antibacterial, mildly numbing, and antiseptic properties. It is excellent for cosmetic products aimed at acne-prone skin, helping to combat inflammation and fungi. Due to its warming and anesthetic effects, it is suitable for massages of sore muscles, as well as for relieving back or joint pain. You will most commonly find it in toothpastes or mouthwashes, where it helps heal minor wounds, addresses bad breath, and alleviates tooth pain and gum inflammation.
When taken internally, it can help with digestive issues, infections, and respiratory tract inflammation.
