Coconut Sugar
INCI | Cocos nucifera Sucrose |
---|
Description
Coconut sugar is made from the nectar of the flowers of the Cocos nucifera palm. The juice is boiled for several hours until it forms a crystalline solid. Larger chunks are crushed into fine crystals. Its processing is manual and very gentle, so there is no refining, filtering, or the addition of preservatives. It is also sold in the form of a thick brown syrup. Coconut sugar has a wonderfully pleasant caramel-like flavor and is approximately as sweet as cane sugar.
Effects and Uses
It contains a relatively large spectrum of nutrients. The most abundant are iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium. It has antiviral and antibacterial effects. It is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, mainly due to its potassium content. It strengthens the immune system and the fiber supports the digestive tract.
It is primarily used in cooking, but due to its zinc content, which has a positive effect on the skin, it is also popular in cosmetics production.
