Description
Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) is a resin from the frankincense tree, native to Oman and Yemen. It is obtained by making incisions in the tree trunk, from which a sap begins to flow and hardens in the air. Frankincense has a sweet, woody, balsamic scent and has been used since ancient times in religious ceremonies. Today, it is most commonly used in cosmetics or aromatherapy, either as the resin itself or as an essential oil obtained through steam distillation.
Effects and Uses
Frankincense has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, astringent, and blood-circulating effects. It improves blood circulation and oxygenation of the skin. It acts against visible scars, stretch marks, and pigmentation spots. It fights skin aging and is effective in products designed for problematic skin. It reduces pain associated with rheumatism.
Aromatherapeutically, it helps with grounding, calming, hormonal balance, and alleviating headaches. Frankincense also purifies the air and is very popular during meditation.
