Description
Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) is a perennial herb with pinkish flowers known for its medicinal properties since ancient times. It grows in moist meadows and pastures, near rivers and coastal thickets. It contains mainly mucilaginous substances and polysaccharides. In herbalism, its leaves, flowers, and root are used, most commonly in the form of a macerate.
Blooming period: July - September.
Effects and Use
Marshmallow root has anti-inflammatory, soothing, and moisturizing properties. It is particularly suitable for dry, sensitive skin with rashes or eczema, as well as for hair. It helps to hydrate the skin, alleviates itching and redness. It smooths the hair fiber and combats hair loss. It reduces swelling and heals purulent wounds.
When taken internally, marshmallow helps with respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal inflammation.
