Sandalwood

Sandalwood is obtained from the white sandalwood tree, which is a tropical evergreen tree. Sandalwood is renowned for its hardness and strong aromatic scent. It contains tannins, resins, fructose, glucose, linoleic, oleic, and palmitic acids, as well as amino acids. The inner part of the trunk contains a yellow core, which, like the roots, holds fragrant essential oils. The essential oil used in cosmetics, medicine (including Ayurveda), and food is extracted through distillation from the core and roots.

Effects and Uses

Sandalwood has anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, healing, and soothing properties. It is suitable for oily skin prone to acne as well as for dry skin, which it nourishes. It strengthens the skin, regulates sebum production, and facilitates the healing of scars, minor wounds, and other skin issues.

In aromatherapy, it calms the nervous system, alleviates tension and anxiety, and induces tranquility. When taken internally, it helps against inflammation and infections, relieves digestive problems, and helps reduce fever.
