Description
Peppermint is a well-known perennial herb native to Western Europe and the Mediterranean. It is characterized by its fresh, spicy aroma. It contains essential oils, arginine, acetic acid, beta-carotene, B vitamins, calcium, bitter compounds, tannins, and other substances. In herbalism, its leaves and stems are used, which are dried or from which peppermint essential oil is extracted.
It is often used in culinary applications, making beverages (mojito), chewing gums, and more.
Effects and Use
Peppermint has soothing, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. It is more suitable for normal to oily and problematic skin. It reduces sebum production, alleviates feelings of itching and skin irritation, and nourishes hair.
When taken internally, peppermint calms digestion and acts against infections and smooth muscle spasms (it has spasmolytic effects).
