Description
Thyme (Thymus serpyllum) is an herb with a strong pleasant aroma and small pink to purple flowers. It primarily grows on dry grassy slopes, meadows, field margins, or along the edges of paths. In herbalism, its aerial parts are used, which contain essential oils (cymol, thymol), tannins, ursolic acid, flavonoids, and phytoncidal (antibiotic) substances.
Blooming period: June to September.
Effects and Use
Thyme has antiseptic, astringent, and blood-circulating effects. It is particularly suitable for problematic oily skin with acne, which it helps to heal, and for oily hair. It tightens enlarged pores and is also popular in oral hygiene, among other things due to its ability to suppress odors.
When taken internally, thyme contributes to restful sleep, soothes stomach and menstrual cramps, and aids in respiratory illnesses. In spice form, it is used similarly to thyme (another species of thyme).
