Description
The turmeric plant is an aromatic perennial herb that primarily grows in tropical Asia. From its rhizome, the well-known, strongly aromatic, and brightly yellow spice - turmeric - is obtained through drying and subsequent grinding. It contains curcumin, caffeic acid, cinnamic acid, and p-coumaric acid, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenes.
Effects and Uses
Turmeric has antibiotic, antifungal, antioxidant, healing, detoxifying, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly suitable for normal to oily skin, which may be affected by acne, eczema, dermatitis, or pigmentation disorders. Due to its whitening and healing effects, it is also commonly used in toothpaste.
For internal use, turmeric is most often found as part of curry spices. It detoxifies the body, alleviates pain, supports blood circulation, and harmonizes hormonal activity.
