Glycerin

INCI Glycerine
Other names glycerol

Description

Glycerin (also known as glycerol) is a clear, odorless liquid that is slightly sticky and somewhat sweet. It is one of the most commonly used ingredients in cosmetics. It is a naturally occurring alcohol compound.

Effects and Uses

Glycerin is commonly added to products for its ability to moisturize, soften, and smooth the skin. It exhibits high hygroscopicity (it attracts moisture), thus providing hydrating effects.

Always inquire about its origin. It can be plant-based (oils), synthetic (petroleum), or animal-based (fats).

In our products, we now exclusively use plant-based glycerin, which is derived from canola, sunflower, or coconut oil.

You will also find glycerin in the INCI of our soaps - in this case, it is the one that occurs naturally as a byproduct during the saponification process; we do not artificially add it to the soap.
